Nothing says winter better than gliding round the ice while wrapped up in gloves and a scarf. Here’s where you’ll be able to go ice skating in Hertfordshire over the Christmas period.

Hertfordshire Ice Rinks 2017/18

Experience the magic of ice skating at Van Hage’s undercover ice rink. The fully heated marquee includes a viewing platform for spectators, comfortable seating and a café that is open daily. There are different skating sessions on offer including 6Skate, Parent & Toddler, and Special Needs. A full range of figure skates included in the price of admission and a limited number of skating aids are also available to hire (advanced booking recommended).
Cost: Adults and children £6, skate aids £6 or £7.

Ice Skating at Lee Valley White Water Centre
Open from Saturday 25 November to Sunday 24 December 2017 (closed Mondays and Tuesdays)

Get in the festive spirit as you glide around this all-weather ice rink. When you’ve finished skating you can browse the Christmas market or warm up with a mulled wine or hot chocolate. Sessions are 45 minutes long. Children under 6 must be accompanied by a responsible adult on the ice.
Cost: £5 per person, £30 family ticket. Skate aids are free of charge but subject to availability

Watford’s Big Skate
Open from Saturday 25 November to Sunday 14 January 2018 (Closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day)

Watford’s outdoor ice rink returns to The Parade with a host of twinkling Christmas trees and fairy lights. There is a viewing area and bar, serving festive food and drinks for all ages. Minimum age for skating is 4 years. Each session lasts 45 minutes.
Cost: Adults £8.50, Child (age 4 to 16) £6.50, Family (2 adults & 2 children or 1 adult and 3 children) £25. Skate aids available for £3 on a first come, first served basis and cannot be pre-booked.

Ice Skating at Willow Activity Farm’s Santa Spectacular
Open from Wednesday 22 November to Sunday 24 November 2017

This Christmas Willow’s will be incorporating a synthetic ice rink into its festive celebrations. Ski boots to fit all sizes will be available to borrow. In addition to the ice rink, Willows will be putting on plenty of indoor activities, Christmas shows likes the Elf Sing-a-Long and Nativity performances featuring real farm animals, tractor rides, a 3D film and, of course, Santa’s Grotto.
Cost: Tickets for the Santa Spectacular from £11 to £34 when purchased in advance online.

Planet Ice, Hemel Hempstead
Open seven days a week, including Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Planet Ice offer indoor public skating, weekly disco sessions with live DJ, parent & toddler sessions, courses, training, shows and events. There is free car parking on site and a café serving meals and snacks.
Cost: Prices from £5.30 to £9.00 with skating hire (plus admin fee of £1). Family ticket from £22.80. Penguin skate aid hire £3 for 60 mins. Adult spectators £2.00 (under 21s must pay full admission fee).

Ice Skating at Alexandra Palace

Located just south of Hertfordshire, Alexandra Palace is an iconic ice skating rink that is open all year round. The ice rink is very busy at weekends and holiday times during winter months, so online booking and early arrival is advised. The Ice Cafe is open Monday – Friday 10am- 6pm and Saturday and Sunday 8am – 10pm.
Cost: Prices from £5 for under 5s during term time. Family tickets from £29.50.
